What Do You Need To Know Before A Senior Portrait Session?

How long do Sessions last?

Most Sessions last one to two hours. Typically Sessions are held in the last two hours of daylight, which changes throughout the year.

When should I book my Session?

I recommend booking your Session at least two weeks in advance in the Spring or Summer, and at least four weeks in advance in the Fall. Senior Sessions can be booked all year long and in every season.

May and June are actually the best times to do your Session for many reasons! The weather is beautiful, it’s not too hot, and you won’t have to worry about the stress and rush of the Fall when school starts.

Can I bring my pet to my Session?

Absolutely! I love having pets in Senior Sessions. I’m a dog parent myself, so I get it! Your pet is another family member, and is more than welcome to be in a few of your images.

If you bring a pet to your Session, I recommend having another person with you to hold the leash or otherwise wrangle your pet(s) when they’re not in front of the camera.

Will you edit my photos?

Absolutely! While I don’t do detailed editing on the proofs I’ll show you, I do touch up the final images you purchase. So don’t worry about the zit that appeared that morning, or the piece of lint on your shirt. I’ve got you covered. Overall I take a natural approach to my photo editing. I never want to make you look plastic!

Can I bring more than one outfit?

Absolutely! I recommend picking out a few of your favorite outfits, and if you’d like help choosing, we can do that together the day of your Session.

I encourage outfit changes to help build variety and show off your personality in your photos. I also have you covered for changing outfits! I always bring along a popup changing tent that sets up in about 3 seconds, making it easy to change on location.

Can I incorporate an interest, hobby, car, sport, etc. into my Session?

Definitely, it’s more fun that way! Part of making your session about you is what you like to do—And think about all the time and energy you’ve put into learning your sport, instrument, art, hobby, or even career skills. Let’s commemorate that!

I’ve had Seniors bring motorcycles, sports gear, instruments, dancewear, cars, telescopes, Red Sox gear, horses, and more. So if you have something you love, whether it’s in this list or not, let's show it off!

What products do you offer?

I have a wide variety of product options to suit everyone’s needs, including canvases, collages, books, framed and matted or wallet prints, ViewFinders, digital images, and more. I can also make prints on REAL wood and REAL metal. How’s that for a way to stand out?

What makes Senior Portrait Sessions with J&S different?

Senior Portrait Sessions with Sean at J&S Photography are about so much more than your yearbook photo. These Sessions are all about giving you a space to fully express yourself and celebrate this special time in your life (or your Senior’s life)! Every Session feels down to earth, contemporary, and personalized. My goal is for everyone who sees your photos to say, “That’s so YOU!”

These Sessions are all about creating portraits of you that feel super authentic, so you and your family will want to look back at them, even decades in the future, to remember how far you’ve come. Right now you may still be getting to know who you really are under the surface, and I’m here to make sure this important part of your life is captured forever. After all, this may be the last time you’re professionally photographed until your wedding, should you choose to have one!

Who is my photographer?

Hey! I’m Sean and I’m the photographer for Senior Portrait Sessions by J&S! You will be working with me throughout the entire Session process. My love for photography started when I was a high schooler, and hasn’t stopped since. What keeps me excited to photograph these Sessions is how every Senior sparks new creative ideas for me. Each of you is so unique!

My clients often say that I’m reassuring and easy to be around. I like for my Sessions to feel low key and down to earth (literally—I end up laying on the ground to get the perfect angle at almost every Session!) You can trust me to help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, even if you’ve never done it before.

Where are you located?

My Studio is in Shirley, MA—This is where you’ll get to see all of your photos unveiled after your Session!

Where do you hold your Senior Portrait Sessions?

My favorite locations are in Littleton, and Downtown Ayer. You might be surprised to know that just in these two locations you can find tons of variety for Session backdrops that suit your individual style!

How do I prep for my Session?

Most importantly, I want you to know that you can show up for your Session exactly how you are right now, and it will be amazing. There’s no need to add any extra stress or pressure to look a certain way. As I always say, just be yourself! These Sessions are for celebrating you, exactly as you are, no changes needed.

Can I do my Senior Portraits with some of my friends?

YES! I actually highly encourage this! Many times I’ve had several High School Senior friends do their Senior Portraits at the same time. Each Senior will have individual portraits as well as some group photos too! I love doing these Sessions so much that I will throw in a free 5×7 group photo to each purchasing Senior.

Do you offer hair and makeup services?

Yes! I collaborate with amazing stylists who can work with all types of hair and skin tones. If you would like professional hair and makeup styling to be part of your Senior Portrait experience, my stylists are happy to help. If it’s not your vibe, there’s no obligation whatsoever!

What kinds of outfits should I wear?

It’s not so much about what you wear, but how you feel in it. Does your outfit feel like the most authentic version of you, and light you up? I’ve had past clients wear everything from a tshirt and jeans, to sports gear, to pointe shoes, to prom dresses. Nearly anything goes!

How do I see my photos after the Session?

I’ll set up a Viewing Appointment with you to see all your photos at my Studio in Shirley, MA. The appointment lasts about 1-2 hours and will start with a slideshow unveiling all of your best images. Once we go through the slideshow, you’ll get to make selections for your order. Please be prepared to place your order at this time. I’ll walk you through every step of this process.
